About Pegasus

Pegasus is the white winged horse of Greek Mythology. The creature served as a carrier and protector of heroes. Symbolically speaking, Pegasus combines the vitality and strength of a horse, with the weightlessness and freedom from terrestrial concerns of a bird.

Stories vary, but it is said that Pegasus was the son of Poseidon and Medusa. Furthermore, it was by using Pegasus as his steed that Bellerophon was able to overcome the Chimera.

Later Pegasus transported the thunderbolts forged by the Cyclopes for Zeus. For his help, Pegasus was immortalized in the night sky in the constellation bearing his name.

Pegasus' story became a favourite theme in Greek art and literature, and in late antiquity Pegasus' soaring flight was interpreted as an allegory of the soul's immortality. In modern times Pegasus has been regarded as a symbol of poetic inspiration.
